Ever-changing seascape
The Ommaroo Hotel has been situated on the seafront at Havre des Pas beach since the 1920’s and comprises a number of traditional Victorian villas, typical of that area. Our guests can sit and enjoy the spectacular ever-changing seascape with the sea water tidal pool, always of particular interest to our visitors. Jersey has one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, and at low tide the island nearly doubles in size so no two days will offer the same view!
a popular place to swim
Havre des Pas
Has always been a popular place to swim, even before the pool was constructed in the 1890’s by the Jersey Swimming Club. This splendid Victorian tidal swimming pool opened to the public on 22 May 1895. Changing facilities and a cafe were added in 1927. A major re-fit took place in 2001. It is used by the Jersey Swimming Club, as well as being enjoyed by the locals and visitors alike, all year round. An annual Christmas day swim takes place at 11am, with around 100 participants.
The pool is replenished at each tide, making it popular with families in the summer months and a safe place for swimming. It is accessible all year round. Life guards are on duty from May until October between 10am and 6pm. There is no entrance fee. Changing facilities and a small cafe are available.
As an alternative to the sea water pool, you could also take a relaxing dip in the Ommaroo hotel’s outdoor heated swimming pool (heated in the summer months).
